April Ross

April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball players who have won medals in multiple Olympics. Alix-Klineman will compete with April Ross in Tokyo for her third gold medal over the next few days. Ross is determined to earn more than her initial Olympic medal. It could be the last time she has the chance to do so at the age of 39. Nevertheless she is confident that the top awards are at hand. Ross stated to NBC Boston that if they play their best, or play a great game and they are able to play well, the team can win a gold medal. It's also going to be an issue of luck. Ross, who was born 1982 and lived within Costa Mesa California with her mother and sister, first began competing in the sports of Newport Harbor High School. Ross competed in many sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. Being a pre-athlete she was also a participant in indoor volleyball and track. Though she excelled in indoor volleyball however, it was evident that her performance was above average. According to her bio in high school, she played volleyball as an outside setter (middle blocker) as well as a the setter (outside blocker). Her efforts were recognized in 1999 when she was named Gatorade's Circle Of Champions National Players of the Year. Also, in 2000 she was recognized as the Orange County Athlete of the Year for volleyball. Even though Ross and Klineman are in the spotlight from 2017 onward, the former was already an established participant on the beaches long before their pairing. In reality, she was a winner of numerous major events in the past with two different partners. one of which is an icon of volleyball. She teamed up with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and was also Klineman's coach. Together with Kessy Ross was awarded an Olympic Title in 2009 while competing internationally. The duo took silver in London's Olympic Games. Misty Maytreanor's legendary team and Kerri Jennings were the winners of gold. Ross Jennings became Walsh Jennings partner in fate after Maytreanor's retirement. They both won bronze medals in beach volleyball for the Rio Olympics of the year 2016. Ross was a student athlete for USC Trojans before the start of her professional career. She was a player in high school, and even some years before she hit the beaches as a professional. And her run at USC was a memorable one. The year 2000 was her freshman year. earned her the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman of the award and become an All-American. She also helped her Trojans to make it to the Final Four. She suffered a devastating personal loss in her sophomore season and yet she went on to repeat in the ranks of an All-American. In her last two seasons as a player, she led the Trojans towards the summit winning successive national titles. Individually she had cemented her place as a legend winning the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross majored at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross did not see her daughter reach the top of the beach volleyball ladder. Ross's mother died of breast cancer when she was a sophomore at USC. In the aftermath, Ross remains close to her parent who died. Also, Margie continues to be an motivation for her at the beach and in life.
